Just one more thing for the day...
I was looking though the Wheatmark submission materials and decided that I am really selling myself short. So, I went to Rutgers, University of California, and Oxford press websites and looked at their submission guidelines! They publish in my area and they are respectable!

I love the cat. BIG eyes always get me. I think publishers should be like job applications-- you rank order them from the top desired and then work your way down as circumstances dictate. But all should be desired.
Also, I'd scope out which publishers may have a series or history of focusing on issues around women's studies/ environmental issues. There are three or four university presses that have a big focus in rhetoric and composition publishing that you wouldn't think of at first (Utah State UP and So. Illinois UP, for example) but they are major players in that area. Are there any similar university presses that have a strong catalog of gender and environmental studies?
